For an uncomplicated pregnancy, 30 minutes of moderate activity most days is generally encouraged. Walking, swimming, and prenatal yoga are well-tolerated through all three trimesters.

What to adjust each trimester

  • First trimester: keep intensity moderate if nausea or fatigue is heavy
  • Second trimester: avoid lying flat on your back for long stretches
  • Third trimester: swap high-impact moves for lower-impact alternatives as balance shifts

Stop and call your doctor if you notice

  • Vaginal bleeding or fluid leakage
  • Dizziness or shortness of breath at rest
  • Chest pain or regular, painful contractions
