Fruits and vegetables to approach with caution
Papaya, in its unripe or semi-ripe form, contains latex that may trigger contractions. Fully ripe papaya in small amounts is generally considered safe by most obstetricians, but many doctors still recommend avoiding it altogether during the first trimester.

- Well-cooked lentils and legumes (dal)
- Pasteurized dairy — milk, curd, paneer
- Thoroughly cooked eggs and meat

- Raw or undercooked meat, fish, and eggs
- Excess caffeine (more than 200mg/day)
- Certain herbs in medicinal quantities — ajwain, fenugreek in large amounts
